Welcome to the Sussex County Community Development and Housing Department.

My staff and I are committed to providing decent, safe, and affordable housing opportunities to people of low and moderate incomes in Sussex County. We work closely with federal and state agencies, as well as local municipalities to meet our goals of preserving Sussex County’s housing stock for affordable housing.

Since 1990, our office has assisted over 2,200 families with housing needs. We are proud of the success of our program; however we know much more needs to be done for the residents of Sussex County. We currently have 800 families on our waiting list and historically we receive enough funding to assist 125 jobs per year.

We’re very pleased with our new Moderately Priced Housing Unit Program for working professionals. We are nearing the end of the two-year test period for the program, at that time we will evaluate and review all necessary modifications to the program. Our goal is to have homes built by 2009. The program’s success is heavily reliant on the support and input received by local housing advocates.
