Sewer and Water

The information contained on this web site deals with water and sewer systems operated by the Sussex County Council. Sussex County operates several sewer districts and one water district. Many of the cities and towns in Sussex County operate their own water and sewer systems. You must contact those communities to find out information on their services.

Sussex County is also not responsible for the issuance of on-site (i.e. septic systems) wastewater permits. The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) issues permits for those systems and performs the required inspections. The Sussex County office of DNREC can be contacted at (302) 856-4561.

The objective of the Environmental Services Department is to operate and maintain the county's water and wastewater facilities in an economical and efficient manner. It is our obligation to protect the natural resources of Sussex County by consistently maintaining a high quality effluent.
