Sussex County provides a variety of services to its residents. These services are funded, in part, by real estate and capitation taxes.
There are more than 158,800 parcels located within the approximately 938 square miles of land in Sussex County. The Treasury Division staff is responsible for the billing, collection and disbursement of taxes and other levies within the county. For Fiscal Year 2007, the Treasury Division mailed out more than 161,000 tax bills totaling approximately $96 million, to be collected on behalf of the general government, local libraries and the eight school districts within the county.
