Sussex County Coronavirus Updates

All County government facilities are closed to public access until further notice.

In an effort to allow document and permit processing, the public will be allowed strict limited entry only to the lobby of the County Administrative Offices building, located at 2 The Circle in Georgetown, during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday) to drop off documents to be processed by County staff. In-person contact with employees in their respective offices will be prohibited. The public is asked to please plan accordingly.

Every effort should be made to electronically submit documents. Please see department information below on digital submissions.

For those individuals dropping off documents, all submissions shall include an intake form. Please fill out, print, and include with your submission when dropping off documents.

All necessary payments will be processed by credit card or checks; no cash will be accepted. Credit card fees are waived.

Assessment

Inquiries related to the State 65 Tax Credit, tax releases, mobile home class C letters, etc., are still being processed by staff. Please call the Assessment office at (302) 855-7824.

Board of Adjustment

Building Code/Inspections

Building Permits

The Building Permits counter is closed.

For customers who need to submit physical copies of plans, a drop-off box is available in the County Administrative Offices building lobby, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Drop-offs will be received 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Libraries

All County Libraries are closed until further notice.

Marriage Bureau

The Marriage Bureau office is currently closed. Certified copy requests via email or Go Certificate can be processed. All other services at this time are not available. Please call or email if you would like to be put on the list for ceremonies in the future. Please continue to mail all marriage certificates to the office after your wedding. If you need an update or an extension on the timing of your marriage license, please call (302) 853-1717 or email.

Planning & Zoning Commission

Recorder of Deeds

The Recorder of Deeds counter is closed. For customers who need to record documents, a drop-off box is available in the County Administrative Offices building lobby, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Drop-offs will be received 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Copies of documents can be obtained through the Online Deeds website. E-recording is available by contacting the following vendors:

E-filing is strongly encouraged. All document types are accepted except plots. Staff is e-filing during normal business hours.

Requests for copies of documents or general information questions can be submitted to deeds@sussexcountyde.gov, or by leaving a voice mail at (302) 855-7785. For the quickest response, it is advised to use the email address provided.

Register of Wills

The Register of Wills office is closed. Customers who need documents, please call (302) 855-7875 or email willsinfo@sussexcountyde.gov. Further information can be found on the Register of Wills homepage.

Sheriff's Office

The April 21 and May 19 Sheriff Sales will not be held. Any previous or current sale that has been received through April 30, 2020 will be on the June 16, 2020 sale. Per Governor John Carney's modification to the State of Emergency declaration, residential foreclosures and evictions are suspended during the outbreak of coronavirus. The order will remain in effect until May 15 or until the public health threat is eliminated.
