All County government facilities are closed to public access until further notice.
In an effort to allow document and permit processing, the public will be allowed strict limited entry only to the lobby of the County Administrative Offices building, located at 2 The Circle in Georgetown, during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday) to drop off documents to be processed by County staff. In-person contact with employees in their respective offices will be prohibited. The public is asked to please plan accordingly.
Every effort should be made to electronically submit documents. Please see department information below on digital submissions.
For those individuals dropping off documents, all submissions shall include an intake form. Please fill out, print, and include with your submission when dropping off documents.
All necessary payments will be processed by credit card or checks; no cash will be accepted. Credit card fees are waived.

Assessment (updated 5/1/20)
Per the Governor's Fourteenth Modification to Emergency Declaration, the deadline for the 2020 Application for the State 65 Tax Credit has been extended to June 1. The application deadline for Sussex County's Exemption for Residents Over 65 has also been extended to June 1.
Inquiries related to the State 65 Tax Credit, tax releases, mobile home class C letters, etc., are still being processed by staff. Please call the Assessment office at (302) 855-7824.

The Building Permits counter is closed.
Building Permits for dwellings, commercial, and large projects must be submitted at the drop-off box available in the County Administrative Offices building lobby, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Drop-offs will be received 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All other building permit requests will be processed electronically at email@example.com.

Marriage Bureau (updated 4/24/20)
The Marriage Bureau office is currently closed. Certified copy requests via email or Go Certificate can be processed. If you are in need of a marrriage license and have online capabilities (i.e. scanning, printing, and ZOOM), please call (302) 853-1717 to speak with our staff about making an appointment to obtain a marriage license pursuant to the Governor's State of Emergency modification. Please call or email if you would like to be put on the call back list for a license/ceremony officiated by our office as soon as we are open to the public again. Please continue to mail all marriage certificates to the office after your wedding. You can call (please be sure to leave a message) or email at any time to get a status update.

The Recorder of Deeds counter is closed. For customers who need to record documents, a drop-off box is available in the County Administrative Offices building lobby, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Drop-offs will be received 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

E-filing is strongly encouraged. All document types are accepted except plots. Staff is e-filing during normal business hours.

Sheriff's Office (updated 5/19/20)
The April 21, May 19, June 16, and July 21 Sheriff Sales will not be held. Any previous or current sale that has been received through June 30, 2020 will be on the August 18, 2020 sale. Per Governor John Carney's modification to the State of Emergency declaration, residential foreclosures and evictions are suspended during the outbreak of coronavirus. The order will remain in effect until May 15 or until the public health threat is eliminated.
