Sussex County in June 2025 received the results of a comprehensive year-long study to examine and detail the financial health and sustainability of the volunteer fire protection and ambulance transport service that is the standard here and throughout most of Delaware. Conducted by FACETS, LLC, the study was initiated in 2024 in all three counties to look at the volunteer service and offer a snapshot of current finances, volunteer and personnel trends, as well as offer recommendations on next steps to ensure the public safety network that has proudly existed for more than a century remains sufficient to meet current and future needs of a growing population and changing state.
