Sussex County government offices closed Monday, Jan. 6, 2025 due to winter weather

Due to the forecast for winter weather, Sussex County government offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.

A winter storm warning has been posted for Sussex County, Del., beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, through 4 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, as the season's first major winter storm is expected to overspread the region and dump as much as 8 to 12 inches of snow, with higher amounts possible in areas where heavier bands of moisture move through. Meantime, a brief period of mixed precipitation - sleet, freezing rain, and rain - could interrupt the expected snowfall during the early afternoon hours Monday, before returning to all snow on Monday night. Gusty winds up to as high as 40 mph are also possible, and cold air is forecast to sweep in behind the storm, dropping temperatures across the area into the teens late Monday night. Travel is expected to be difficult, if not nearly impossible, and power outages from downed trees and electrical lines are possible during and after the event.

Please stay tuned to the County's website, social media channels, and local media for any pertinent updates, which will be issued as warranted.
