Sussex County government offices closed Monday, Jan. 26, 2026 due to winter weather

Due to winter weather conditions, Sussex County government offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. The scheduled Board of Adjustment meeting set for Monday night is also postponed; items on the agenda will be re-rescheduled for another date(s).

The season's first major winter storm has left, on average, 2 to 5 inches of snow across much of the area. Meantime, a transition to a wintry mix of sleet and rain has compacted the snow into a slushy layer that National Weather Service forecasters expect to freeze as cold air rushes into the region during the overnight hours and early Monday. With temperatures not expected to reach the freezing mark throughout the coming week, hard surfaces, particularly roads, parking lots, and walkways, will be treacherous to navigate.

The public is urged to avoid travel, if possible, for their safety and to allow Delaware Department of Transportation road crews time to clear area roadways.

Please stay tuned to the County's website, social media channels, and local media for any pertinent updates, which will be issued as warranted.
