January 16, 2006 PR 06-02 [Georgetown, DE]- On January 17, 2006, at approximately 10:00 a.m. Sussex County EMS will receive recognition for fifteen years of service to the community during the regularly scheduled council meeting.
In honor of this achievement, Sussex County Council will issue the following proclamation and declare January 17, 2005, Sussex County EMS Appreciation Day:
Whereas Sussex County Emergency Medical Services was founded on January 15, 1991 for the purpose of providing state-of-the-art paramedic services to the citizens of and visitors to Sussex County, and;
Whereas in response to steady growth in Sussex County, the original group of ten paramedics operating with one response vehicle has grown to a department that includes over a hundred paramedics, paramedic supervisors, administrators and support personnel stationed at nine locations throughout the County, and
Whereas Sussex County EMS is consistently among the first EMS departments in Delaware and the nation to introduce advanced procedures and equipment designed to ensure that the quality of care it provides is the finest in the country, and;
Whereas Sussex County EMS and its members are recognized as leaders in the field of emergency medical services throughout the country, and;
Whereas Sussex County EMS works closely with its partners in the Delaware Fire Service, area hospitals, Delaware Office of EMS and Delaware Emergency Management Agency to play a critical role in our Homeland Security and Statewide Trauma Systems, and;
Whereas a team of Sussex County Paramedics distinguished itself , the Department, and Sussex County by winning the 2005 National Paramedic Competition known as the “JEMS Games”, and;
Whereas on Sussex County EMS is celebrating fifteen years of dedicated service to the community throughout 2006,
Now, Therefore, the Sussex County Council recognizes the outstanding contribution of Sussex County Emergency Medical Services and its members to the quality of life in Sussex County, and proclaims January 17, 2006, as Sussex County EMS Appreciation Day.

Several Paramedics who have been with the department for the past fifteen years will be on hand to participate in the proclamation ceremony. This event will kick off a fifteen-year anniversary celebration that will culminate during EMS Week.
