Learn about Senior Volunteerism and CHEER Services in Sussex

Georgetown, DE (April 27, 2015): The arrival of warm weather and sunny skies means more than days to the beach are ahead. It’s time to get out of the house and do something productive.

Join the Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities for its May meeting to learn about opportunities for seniors and those with disabilities to get out, find outlets for their energy, and make new friends. Anthony DelFranco, director of marketing for CHEER/Sussex County Senior Services, will present information on all the CHEER centers in Sussex County, and the various activities offered year-round. In addition, Ann Gorrin of the Delaware Office of Volunteerism will discuss Delaware Volunteer 50+, a program for persons 50 and older who want to volunteer.

The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2015, at the new CHEER Center located at 24855 Broadkill Road, Milton.  A tour of the facility will be offered to those attending the meeting.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities is an 11-member panel established by the Sussex County Council to be an advocate for programs and policies that benefit older and disabled residents. The committee meets every other month, in January, March, May, July, September and November. All meetings are open to the public. The Advisory Committee’s mission is to increase dialogue, make recommendations to Sussex County Council, and to give support, assistance and advice on significant issues and programs that may affect the lives of the county’s aging and adults with physical disabilities populations.
