Retirement volunteer program topic at next aging committee meeting

Georgetown, DE (March 8, 2011): For those senior citizens who have grown tired of retirement, mark the calendar and ‘RSVP’ for the next meeting of the Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities.

April Willey, volunteer coordinator for the Sussex County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, known as RSVP, will be the featured guest speaker at the March meeting of the committee. Among some of the RSVP program’s features, participants 55 and older learn how to exercise easier, how to search for new employment and how to seek out volunteering opportunities that match their interests.

Ms. Willey will discuss RSVP’s mission and goals, as well as the accomplishments and effect the program has had on seniors’ lives by tapping the volunteering spirit in Sussex County.

The Advisory Committee invites the public to attend the committee’s next meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Sussex County Administrative Offices West Complex on North DuPont Highway in Georgetown. An open discussion will follow the featured presentation.

The Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities is an 11-member panel established by the Sussex County Council to be an advocate for programs and policies that benefit older and disabled residents. The committee meets every other month, in January, March, May, July, September and November. All meetings are open to the public.

The Advisory Committee’s mission is to increase dialogue, make recommendations to Sussex County Council, and to give support, assistance and advice on significant issues and programs that may affect the lives of the county’s aging and adults with physical disabilities populations.
