August 18, 2008 MR 08-19 [Georgetown-DE] - Sussex County EMS has been conducting Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Training during the month of August on four separate dates. One of these training sessions will take place on Wednesday August 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sussex County EMS headquarters in the Western Administrative Complex located at 22215 DuPont Boulevard in Georgetown, Delaware.
This Mass Casualty Incident training will simulate injured children on a school bus. An actual school bus will be used during the training to create more realism. The training involves class room instruction and hands-on scenarios. Paramedics participating in the training will perform MCI functions including management roles, triaging patients, and communicating with hospitals and others to coordinate the optimum use of resources. This training will also give our paramedics an opportunity to test our current MCI and School Bus Accident Plans.
Transportation Supervisors from several Sussex County school districts have participated so far in the training and others are scheduled to do so this Wednesday. Officials from the State Department of Education will be on hand to observe our training and school bus policy. During the training there will be several opportunities for pictures and interviews.
