Sussex County names Kristin Cooper employee of the year for 2020

Georgetown, Del., Jan. 5, 2021: Sussex County has named Kristin Cooper of Georgetown the 2020 employee of the year for County government.

The 2020 winner was announced Jan. 5, 2021, during the Sussex County Council’s first meeting of the new year. Ms. Cooper was selected from a field of seven employees, all quarterly winners and notable mentions in the past year, for the honor.

Ms. Cooper, an honorable mention in the fourth quarter of 2020, received a round of applause from members of Council, County staff, and others as she was presented with the award.

“I’m truly honored and grateful to be selected as Employee of the Year,” said Ms. Cooper, who is assistant director at the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach and was lauded, among other things, for her efforts in the past year during the pandemic to keep library patrons connected through virtual resources and programs. “The past year has been an unprecedented time, and public libraries have tried to find new ways to serve the community and keep everyone connected in a socially distanced world. I’m proud to have been part of that.”

County Administrator Todd F. Lawson commended Ms. Cooper for her four years of dedicated service to County government, which began full time in September 2016. Her dedication, commitment, and pride in her work were evident during the challenging times of 2020, and worthy of the recognition among her peers, Mr. Lawson said.
