Georgetown, Del., Dec. 30, 2006: Sussex County government offices will close Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, as Americans pause for a National Day of Mourning to remember former President Gerald R. Ford.
Sussex County is joining numerous other local, state and federal government offices in closing out of respect for the 38th President of the United States. Only essential staff will report for duty Tuesday.
While offices will be closed for the National Day of Mourning, two events will move forward as planned. These include:
- The swearing in of three Sussex County row officers who were elected in November. The Sussex County Sheriff, Recorder of Deeds and Register of Wills will be administered their oaths of office at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Council Chambers of the County Administrative Offices building in downtown Georgetown. A ceremonial swearing-in for those officers will be held again at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9.
- A meeting of the County’s Source Water Protection Committee. The meeting is set for 5 p.m. Tuesday at the West Complex, U.S. 113, in Georgetown.
County offices will resume their normal operating hours on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007.
