Sussex County Council honored the world champion District III girls' softball team from Georgetown, Del., during the regular weekly meeting Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017. The team won the title earlier in the month, defeating Asia-Pacific 4 to 0 in tournament play hosted in Roxana, Del. The team is the latest in a series of Sussex County-based baseball and softball squads to win world titles over the years, including the Georgetown Senior League baseball team's world series win in 1981, the District III (Laurel) Senior League softball team's world series win in 2011, the District III (Millsboro-Georgetown) Big League softball team's world series win in 2013, and the District I (Milford) Big League softball team's world series win in 2014.
