Georgetown, Del., Dec. 18, 2008: Sussex County is asking for public comment on proposed rules and regulations for the Sussex County Airport.
The draft Sussex County Airport Policies, if adopted, would establish various rules and regulations for use of the general aviation field near Georgetown, said Jim Hickin, airport manager. The document, in many cases, formalizes rules that are already in practice.
“The rules and regulations ensure Sussex County is meeting the state and federal requirements for operations of the airfield,” Mr. Hickin said. “Most importantly, they ensure the safety and efficient operation of the airport, for the flying public and citizens of the county.”
Among other things, the draft document sets rules for aircraft operations, fueling, long-term vehicle parking, accident reporting, and commercial activities requiring County approval. The document is currently in draft form, and must be approved by the County Council. Public comment will be accepted through Jan. 30, 2009. Mr. Hickin hopes to have the new regulations adopted and in effect by Spring 2009.
