December 29, 2009 MR 09-13 [Laurel DE]- Sussex County EMS (SCEMS) announces the grand opening ceremony for the newly completed Laurel Paramedic Station at 10 AM on Wednesday Jan. 6, 2010. The station is located at 11111 Sycamore Road east of U.S.13 in Laurel, Delaware. Members of the Sussex County Council and Sussex County Administrator David Baker will be on hand to help SCEMS open this new facility with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony the station will be open for tours and the public is invited to attend.
This project represents the first Sussex County EMS station of its kind to be designed from scratch and specifically built as an EMS Station. Most SCEMS facilities are leased and have been modified from existing structures. The station has been designed to be energy efficient and blend into the surrounding residential community. The new facility and location will allow for more efficient response to all the areas currently served by Medic 102 including Laurel, Gumboro, Delmar, and Blades. Medic 102 responded to more than 2,000 emergency incidents in 2008.
