SCEMS Announces Shift Excellence Awards

May 1, 2009 MR 09-04 [Georgetown, DE]-Each year one paramedic from each of the four shifts is selected for shift excellence by their Supervisor for outstanding dedication to the system. This is shown by improving clinical skills, outstanding achievement during participation or leadership in departmental projects or activities. The four paramedics selected for this honor as Shift Excellence for 2008 include Chris Boyer, A-Shift; Gabi Evans, B-Shift; John Wright, C-Shift; and Elizabeth Moye, D-Shift.

Paramedic Chris Boyer Began his career with Sussex County in 2003. Since becoming involved in the FTO Program Paramedic Boyer has been developing training programs to teach others including presenting cases studies and daily training. Each Sussex County Paramedic attends hundreds of hours of continuing education each year. Many of those training sessions are developed by the FTO program. Paramedic Boyer has already obtained an Associate’s Degree in Paramedic Technology from the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and is working on his Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia Southern University. Chris is married and resides in Milton, Delaware.

Gabriella Evans has been a Paramedic with Sussex County EMS since 2004. Gabi is a graduate of the Delaware Technical and Community College Paramedic Program where she earned an Associate’s Degree in EMS. Gabi has been involved in several committees and workgroups since joining Sussex County EMS, including the Special Events and Bike Teams, and the PIER Team. The Special Events Team provides medical coverage at various community and sporting events throughout Sussex County each year. Gabi is the Vice President of the Sussex County Paramedic Association, and was the coordinator of both the Giggle Medic 5 K race and the Stephanie Callaway Golf tournament. Both events raised money for the Stephanie L. Callaway Scholarship Fund. Paramedic Evans has also been a member of the fire service for the past eighteen years and is currently a member of the Millville Fire Company. Gabi resides in Millville with her daughter and husband.

John Wright, who resides in Frankford, Delaware, graduated from the Delaware Technical and Community College and has been with Sussex since 2004. John serves as the Deputy Fire Chief of the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company where he has been a member since 1998. Mr. Wright has been involved in several committees and workgroups since joining Sussex County EMS. He currently serves at the Training Officer for the Hazmat Mat Team. John is also the Chairperson of the Medic Assist Committee, which provides training for members of the fire department and EMS community in paramedic equipment and procedures. According to John’s Supervisor, “John is an outstanding care provider and he continuously researches new trends and treatments, ensuring that those he comes in contact with are provided the highest possible care.”

Elizabeth Moye resides in Bethany Beach, and has been a Paramedic with Sussex County EMS since 2005. According to Paramedic Moye’s Supervisor, “She has shown tremendous growth as a Paramedic and employee…..” Paramedic Moye has been involved with several committees and workgroup since joining the department. As a member of Paramedic Bike Team she was assigned to a number of special events throughout Sussex County. As a member of the Equipment Team she has provided input and completed several research projects. Paramedic Moye has earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Chatham College, Pittsburgh, PA,
