Georgetown, Del., Dec. 12, 2008: Sussex County Council has named Jayne Ellen Dickerson of Georgetown the 2008 employee of the year for Sussex County government.

Council President Finley B. Jones Jr. on Friday announced this year’s winner during the annual Mildred King Luncheon for the County’s 537 employees. Ms. Dickerson was selected from a field of four employees, all quarterly winners this past year, for the distinction. She was the fourth quarter winner this year.

Ms. Dickerson received a standing ovation from her fellow employees as Mr. Jones presented her with a plaque.

“I’m very honored, thankful and shocked to receive this recognition from my fellow employees,” said Ms. Dickerson, who serves as office manager in the Engineering Department’s Utility Permits division. “I can’t say ‘thank you’ enough.”

County Administrator David Baker commended Ms. Dickerson for nearly 30 years of service, which began in May 1980 as a clerk-typist. Mr. Baker lauded her for her professional attitude, attention to quality customer service and willingness to help fellow employees.
