Georgetown, DE (March 4, 2008): For 30 years, Patsy Brown provided services for the aging and adults with disabilities. Then, after a devastating automobile accident, Ms. Brown found herself in need of the very services she once provided.
Her experience illustrates how physical disability resource needs can develop suddenly, and affect anyone.
Following a long journey of navigating services, from Medicare to rehabilitation, and facing many challenges along the way, Ms. Brown is now an advocate who will share her story at the next meeting of the Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities. Ms. Brown, joined by Gloria Price, support group director of the Wilmington Chapter of the American Coalition for Amputees, will discuss the lessons learned and progress made to establish a support group for amputees in Sussex County.
The Advisory Committee invites the public to attend the committee’s next meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Sussex County Administrative Offices West Complex on North DuPont Highway in Georgetown. An open discussion will follow the featured presentation.
The Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities is an 11-member panel established by the Sussex County Council to be an advocate for programs and policies that benefit older and disabled residents. The committee meets on the third Monday of January, March, May, July, September and November. All meetings are open to the public.
The Advisory Committee’s mission is to increase dialogue, make recommendations to Sussex County Council, and to give support, assistance and advice on significant issues and programs that may affect the lives of the county’s aging and adults with physical disabilities populations.
