Georgetown, Del., May 18, 2006: Sussex County Administrator Robert L. Stickels recently was honored by the Delaware Police Chiefs’ Council for his more than two decades of work in public service and his support of local law enforcement.
The organization, which represents law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Delaware, presented Mr. Stickels with its Police Chiefs’ Council Award during the group’s annual awards ceremony and dinner on Tuesday, May 16, near Rehoboth Beach. Other recipients were recognized for law enforcement service and academic excellence.
“I’ve known Bob since he was first named administrator for the county in 1988,” said Martin Johnson, coordinator for police services for the Chiefs’ Council. “He and the County Council have been very supportive of us, providing us with assistance in the form of grants. Just this past year, we were overwhelmed that the county saw fit to put money in its budget -- $25,000 for each municipality in the county – to help with law enforcement.”
“This was our chance to show our gratitude for all that he has done,” Mr. Johnson said.
Mr. Stickels said he was humbled by the award, particularly as it comes just a few months before his retirement. But he said the people who really deserve the gratitude are the men and women who work in law enforcement each day. “They’re the people truly worthy of recognition,” he said.
