Sussex County Announces Shift Excellence Awards

May 14, 2007 MR 07-08: Each year one paramedic from each of the four shifts is selected for shift excellence by their Supervisor for outstanding dedication to the system.

This is shown by improving clinical skills, outstanding achievement during participation or leadership in departmental projects or activities. The four medics selected for this honor include A-Shift; Carl Davis, B-Shift; Steve Mrozowski; B Shift, Ed Engdahl, C-Shift; and D-Shift; Stephanie Callaway.

Carl has been with SCEMS since 2000. Under Carl’s leadership, the Emergency Preparedness Work Group continues to improve the response capabilities of Sussex County EMS. The group has provided preparedness training for employees, updated emergency plans, and recently added disaster kits for each paramedic station. In addition, Carl remains active as a member of the MCI (Mass Casually Incident) Work Group which tests and improves SCEMS response to large scale incidents by updating plans, providing training, and exercising. Carl lives with his wife and daughter in Lincoln, Delaware and is a ham radio enthusiast in his spare time.

Steve Mrozowski has been with SCEMS since 2005. Steve is the Chair of the Medic Assist Work Group which has been re-invigorated under his direction. Medic Assist is a committee of paramedics that provide awareness level training to EMT’s and First Responders in Advanced Life Support procedures and paramedic equipment. This training is made available to all fire and ambulance companies and helps the EMS teams interact better during emergency situations. Steve earned a Bachelors degree from University of Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and he is working towards a Masters degree in Health Administration. Steve lives in Millsboro where he also a member of the Millsboro Fire Company.

Paramedic Ed Engdahl has been with SCEMS since 2001. He also has been a member of the bike team for several years and previously served as the Coordinator for the Special Event/Bike Team. As coordinator, Ed worked diligently to ensure that events were covered and helped with the maintenance and upkeep of the bikes especially during the annual bike class. As a Field Training Officer, Ed provides training mentoring and training to new employees and paramedic students. Paramedic Engdahl earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Ed lives in Lincoln with wife and three children, and he enjoys hunting, fishing, and bicycling during his spare time.

Stephanie Callaway has been with Sussex County EMS since 2003. Stephanie is very active as a Public Information Officer. She also participates in several community programs. Stephanie co-chairs the EMS Banquet committee, a group which plans and improves the annual banquet each year. Stephanie recently completed advanced public information training at the Emergency Management Institute. Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s Degree from George Washington University in EMS Management and an Associate’s in Paramedic Technology from Delaware Technical and Community College. Stephanie lives in Lewes with her husband and two children. In her spare time she enjoys photography.
