Georgetown, Del., Jan. 29, 2009: Sussex County’s 911 addressing office reminds the public that if the telephone rings, take the call and take a minute to answer a few easy questions. It just might save your life.

As part of its ongoing 911 re-addressing project, Sussex County has begun calling select residents to verify their correct address and telephone information. This information is used by 911 dispatchers to send police, firefighters and paramedics to homes and businesses during an emergency – particularly when callers cannot speak and verbally give their location.

Because some information collected by the County is now more than 10 years old, it is at risk of becoming out of date, said Addressing Supervisor Megan Nehrbas.

“To ensure we have the most up-to-date information, we are making calls to our residents to ask a couple of simple questions,” Ms. Nehrbas said. “We hope the public understands that taking a few minutes now could save time and lives later on, when seconds count.”
