Sussex County Distributes Prescription Drug Discount Card

Georgetown, Del. — Sussex County today launched its new discount card program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs.

County Administrator David B. Baker announced the free cards are now available at all 14 public libraries, as well as on the County’s Bookmobile, and at the County Administrative Offices and West Complex buildings in Georgetown.

The County is making free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo). The cards offer an average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. Most major pharmacies accept the NACo card, with a national network of more than 59,000 retail pharmacies participating. No application or form is necessary.

“Hundreds of counties across the nation are participating in the NACo program, and we are proud to join them because of the significant savings that can be realized by uninsured and underinsured residents,” County Council President Dale R. Dukes said. “Medicare beneficiaries can use the card, and so can the insured in cases where a prescription drug is not covered.”

There is no cost to county taxpayers for NACo and Sussex County to make the cards available. County residents can call toll free 1-877-321-2652 or visit the NACo website for assistance with the program. Residents with general questions also can call (302) 855-7700.

“There are no enrollment forms, restrictions, fees or use limits with the NACo discount card, which makes it very easy for our residents,” Mr. Baker said. “A cardholder simply presents the card at any participating pharmacy. It’s as easy as easy can be.”

The discount card program is administered by Caremark Rx, Inc.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States. Founded in 1935, NACo provides essential services to the nation’s 3,066 counties. NACo advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public’s understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.
