Sussex County government offices closed Monday, Feb. 23, 2026 due to winter weather

Due to winter weather conditions, Sussex County government offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 23, 2026. The scheduled Board of Adjustment meeting set for Monday night is also postponed; items on the agenda will be re-rescheduled for another date(s).

A powerful winter storm that is set to bring blizzard conditions to much of Delaware is underway, dropping, on average, approximately 4 inches of snow across much of the area already, with total forecasted amounts of 12 to 18 inches expected by the time the storm subsides Monday afternoon. Gusty winds up to 60 mph could cause blowing and drifting snow, as well as result in white-out conditions. Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer has declared a state of emergency and enacted a Level II driving restriction, which limits travel to essential employees and employers with approved waivers.

The public is urged to avoid travel, if possible, for their safety and to allow Delaware Department of Transportation road crews time to clear area roadways.

Please stay tuned to the County's website, social media channels, and local media for any pertinent updates, which will be issued as warranted.
