Sussex County names Shari L. Collins employee of the year

Georgetown, Del., Dec. 9, 2011: Sussex County has named Shari L. Collins of Millsboro the 2011 employee of the year for County government.

County Council President Michael Vincent on Friday announced this year’s winner during the annual Mildred King Luncheon for the County’s approximately 500 employees. Ms. Collins was selected by her co-workers from a field of four employees, all quarterly winners this past year, for the honor.

Ms. Collins, this year’s third quarter winner, received a standing ovation from employees as she was presented with a plaque.

“I’m so honored by this selection. It’s nice to know how much you’re appreciated by your co-workers,” said Ms. Collins, who is an administrative clerk in the County’s Emergency Medical Services department. “They are the ones who make it a joy to come to work each day.”

County Administrator David Baker commended Ms. Collins for more than 10 years of service, which began in May 2001 as a data clerk in the Recorder of Deeds office. Mr. Baker praised Ms. Collins for her friendly and outgoing personality, as well as her willingness to help her fellow employees and cross-train on duties in other offices to assist them when needed.
