Sussex County Paramedic Association Announces the "First-Annual Giggle medic 5K Run/Walk"

THE SUSSEX COUNTY PARAMEDIC ASSOCIATION IS ANNOUNCING THE “FIRST-ANNUAL GIGGLE MEDIC 5K RUN/WALK.”

WHEN: Sunday, October 12, 2008, at 9:00 a.m.

WHAT: The 5k run/walk event is in memoriam of Sussex County Paramedic Stephanie L. Callaway, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this year. Paramedic Callaway enjoyed working with all people, particularly our youth. As such, proceeds from the event will be placed in a scholarship fund to be given to students who wish to pursue a career in Emergency Medical Services. The scholarship will be distributed once annually at $500 to a selected applicant from a pool of Sussex County high school students.

RACE INFORMATION: Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the Kings Highway side of Cape Henlopen High School. Race begins at 9:00 a.m. Fees are $20 for pre-registration and $25 on race day. It is a paved 5k run/walk to begin and end at the high school. Race forms can be completed online at https://www.active.com and searching “Giggle Medic.” Applications can also be mailed with payment to:

Multi-colored long-sleeve t-shirts will be provided along with Surf Bagels. Food and entertainment will be provided following the race. Awards will be given in the following categories: Overall, Masters, Top 3 finishers in the following age groups (9 and up, 10-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+) and the Stephanie Callaway Spirit Award (given to First Place male and female paramedics). The event timing and results will be overseen by the Seashore Strider Event Production, Inc.

BACKGROUND: Paramedic Callaway was a five-year veteran of Sussex County Emergency Medical Services (SCEMS) and the president of the Sussex County Paramedic Association. In addition, she served as a Public Information Officer and Field Training Officer for SCEMS. Paramedic Callaway is a Georgetown native and is survived by her husband and two children.
