Georgetown, Del., Dec. 18, 2008: The resignation today of Register of Wills David L. Wilson will not mean an interruption of service to the public, County Administrator David B. Baker announced this morning.
Under County Code, the office’s chief deputy will assume all responsibilities in the absence of the elected Register of Wills. As Mr. Wilson has resigned, effective today, Chief Deputy Roberta Smith will serve in the capacity of Register of Wills until a successor is appointed.
As a State constitutional row office, the appointment must be made by the governor of the State of Delaware. A date for that appointment has not been set. Whoever is appointed will finish the remaining two years on the four-year term.
Mr. Wilson has submitted his resignation, effective Thursday, Dec. 18, to allow him to serve in the House of Representatives of the Delaware General Assembly. Mr. Wilson was elected to represent the 35 House district in the Nov. 4 general election. th
Mr. Baker thanked Mr. Wilson for his nearly 10 years of service to the County government, first as Register in Chancery and later as Register of Wills. “We’re thankful for Mr. Wilson’s dedicated service to the people of Sussex County, and we wish him all the best in the General Assembly in the year to come.”
