Georgetown, Del., Dec. 9, 2024: Sussex County has named Oana Sofronie of Millsboro the 2024 employee of the year for County government.
This year’s winner was announced Dec. 6 during the annual Mildred King Luncheon, held each year to celebrate the County’s approximately 550 employees. Ms. Sofronie was selected from a field of 17 employees, all quarterly winners and honorable mentions this past year, for the 2024 honor.
Ms. Sofronie, an honorable mention in the fourth quarter of 2024, received a round of applause from colleagues, as well as County Council members, when presented with the award.
“I’m honored and humbled to receive this award. It’s so unexpected,” said Ms. Sofronie, a geographic information systems (GIS) technician in the County’s Geographic Information office. She was lauded for, among other things, her attention to detail and willingness to take the lead in helping the County achieve a better-than-97 percent match rate for its 911 addressing-telephone number database. “I’m very proud to work for Sussex County, and proud to work with such a supportive team. This award is for all of us.”
County Administrator Todd F. Lawson commended Ms. Sofronie for her dedicated service to County government, which began in August 2023. Her commitment and willingness to take on additional duties, serve as a role model to her colleagues, and maintain a pleasant and professional attitude make her worthy of the recognition of her peers, Mr. Lawson said.
