Georgetown, DE (Feb. 22, 2010): Everyone knows 9-1-1 is the number to call in an emergency. But where do you call if you need help paying the electric bill, getting transportation to a doctor’s office for an elderly relative, or finding a place to volunteer your time? Accessing those services is now just three buttons away.
Kathleen Anderson, 2-1-1 program director for Delaware Helpline, will be the featured guest speaker at the March meeting of the Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities.
Ms. Anderson will discuss Delaware Helpline’s new 2-1-1 service, an easy-to-remember, non-emergency telephone number for information about and referral to a host of human services, such as financial assistance, utility assistance, legal services, emergency housing, nutrition programs and more.
The Advisory Committee invites the public to attend the committee’s next meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Harbour Lights CHEER Center, 34211 Woods Edge Drive, in Lewes. An open discussion will follow the featured presentation.
The Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities is an 11-member panel established by the Sussex County Council to be an advocate for programs and policies that benefit older and disabled residents. The Advisory Committee’s mission is to increase dialogue, make recommendations to Sussex County Council, and to give support, assistance and advice on significant issues and programs that may affect the lives of the county’s aging and adults with physical disabilities populations.
