January 12, 2006 PR 06-01 [Blades, DE] – On January 11, 2006, The Nanticoke/Seaford Rotary Club presented awards to four Sussex County EMS (SCEMS) Paramedics for outstanding service to their community during the annual Rotary Paramedic Appreciation dinner held at Blades Yacht and Country Club in Blades, Delaware.
The Rotary Club honored one paramedic from each of the four SCEMS shifts selected by their District Supervisors. The award winners included Stuart Hensley, A-Shift; Deborah Holding, B-Shift; Lorri Bradley, C-Shift; and Brandon Donaway, D-Shift. The Supervisors who presented the awards included Robbie Murray; Operations Manager, and District Supervisors; Glenda Pusey, Andrew Wile, and Jay Myers.
Paramedic Stuart Hensley is Chairman of the department’s Public Information, Education and Relations committee, which conducts safety and awareness programs and public displays throughout the community. Mr. Hensley is also a Bike Medic/Special Events Team member and a Field Training Officer. Hensley, who lives in Laurel with this wife and two children, has been paramedic with SCEMS for the past six years. He is pursuing an Associate’s Degree at Delaware Technical and Community College and participates in outdoor activities during this spare time.
Paramedic Deborah K. Holding is a member of several SCEMS committees including the Standard Operating Procedure Committee and Safety Board. These groups establish and revise policies for the department and improve safety for other employees. Paramedic Holding lives in Milton, Delaware with her husband and daughter, where she enjoys horseback riding and cooking. Paramedic Holding has been with SCEMS for the past 14 years and has an Associate’s Degree from Delaware Technical and Community College.
Paramedic Lorri Bradley is involved with the EKG Committee and participates in quality assurance issues. Paramedic Bradley has an Associate’s Degree from Delaware Technical and Community College, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree. Lorri lives in Seaford, Delaware with her husband and three children. In her spare time, she enjoys Civil War reenacting, reading, and skiing.
Paramedic Brandon Donaway is active on several SCEMS committees including EKG, Safety Board, Equipment, and HazMat. Brandon has been a paramedic with Sussex County EMS for the past 14 years. Brandon lives in Dagsboro with his wife and two children. He is active in the Dagsboro Fire Company and has an Associate’s Degree in Emergency Services Management. In his spare time, Donaway enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with family.
During the ceremony, Sussex County EMS, Director, Glenn Luedtke spoke about the growth of calls for emergency services particularly in Western Sussex County and how SCEMS has expanded to meet those increases in calls for service. Director Luedtke said, “The addition of a Paramedic Unit in Bridgeville, a District Supervisor in Blades, and a part-time roving unit will improve our response times throughout the county.” Sussex County is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.
