The Planning & Zoning office will be temporarily closed from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 to celebrate the retirement of longtime director Lawrence Lank.

Retirement volunteer program topic at next aging committee meeting
For those senior citizens who have grown tired of retirement, mark the calendar and ‘RSVP’ for the next meeting of the Sussex County Advisory Committee for the Aging & Adults with Physical Disabilities.
Planning & Zoning
The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Office is responsible for administering the land use process within unincorporated areas of the county. The office is the public point of entry for subdivision, zoning change, conditional use, special use exception and accessory use requests.

Planning & Zoning Commission
The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission is a five-member panel appointed by the Sussex County Council, as stipulated by 9 Del. Code Chapter 68, to consider requests for change of zone, conditional use and subdivision applications. Members are appointed for three-year terms.
Board of Adjustment
The Sussex County Board of Adjustment is a five-member panel, as stipulated by 9 Del. Code Chapter 69, appointed by the Sussex County Council to hear requests for variances or special use exceptions to the County Code. Members are appointed for three-year terms.
The board functions as a quasi-judicial body, hearing individual cases brought before it. The Board of Adjustment meets twice a month in open session.
